Il Grande Bigo
Erected in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of when Columbus first set sail to discover a new route to India, this huge sculpture and sports complex rises over Genoa's harbour like an upside-down octopus. Its arms support awnings over an outdoor skating rink, and the structure houses an elevator to shoot tourists sky-high for a panoramic view of the city.
